Abstract
Current paper looks into the effects of object relation development on the relationship between narcissism and shame. Our study involved 181 high school students, and aimed to use the data to analyze the moderating effects of development of object relations in the relationship between shame and narcissism. The survey used the Two Dimension Narcissism Scale (TMNS), Internalized Shame Scale (ISS) and the Separation-Individuation Scale (SPS) to verify the relationship. While self-initiative narcissism had a negative correlation with shame, other-dependent narcissism and shame scale showed a positive correlation. Rapproachment also had a positive correlation with shame scale. Statistical investigation of the moderating effect of rappoachment in the relationship between narcissism and shame showed that the main effect of self-initiative narcissism and rapproachment is significant, while the moderating effect is insignificant. The moderating effect of rapproachment in the relationship between other-dependent narcissism and shame is proved significant. Finally, the limitations of this study and the implications for the future studies were discussed.
